What is Lube
Jan 13, 2016

"Lube" is a shorter, more casual way of saying "lubricant" or "lubrication." In general, lube gives the human machine greater glide during sex, making sex more comfortable and pleasurable. Lubes come in three basic types - water-based, oil-based, and silicone-based - all of which have different properties:

Oil-based lubes like Vaseline or lotion are not recommended for safer sex because they break down latex. They can also leave a coating on the vagina or rectum that can lead to infections. Males masturbating alone, though, can use oil-based lubes as a way to avoid chafing or to simply try something new.

Oil-Based Products We Carry:

Boy Butter Original 16 oz:

Boy Butter is an organic coconut-oil based cream form lubricant that outlasts silicone based products while washing off with water alone. (For use with non-latex condoms).

Boy Butter Extreme Desensitizing Lubricant:

Boy Butter Extreme is a desensitizing oil-based lubricant made with 5% Benzocaine, a local anesthetic. Its ingredients are blended like real butter resulting in a creamy lube that numbs the fun parts and is long-lasting. Not sticky and washes off with water.

Comes in an easy to use pump. Simply apply a small amount to head and shaft of penis or anus before intercourse or use as directed by a physician - then wash it off after intercourse. Please note that oil based products are NOT latex condom safe.

Indications: Helps in the prevention of premature ejaculation. For temporary male genital desensitization helping to slow the onset of ejaculation. Helps in temporarily slowing the onset of ejaculation. For reducing over-sensitivity in the male in advance of intercourse.

Warnings: Oil based products are NOT latex condom safe. Premature ejaculation may be due to a condition requiring medical supervision. If this product uses as directed does not provide relief, discontinue use and consult a physician. Avoid contact with the eyes. If you or your partner develop a rash or irritation such as burning or itching, discontinue use. If symptoms persist consult a physician.

Water-based lubes are generally considered most user-friendly and all-purpose of the three types. They don't deteriorate latex, so they're safe to use with condoms, dams, diaphragms, and other latex safer-sex products. For most people, water-based lubes are non-irritating, user-friendly, and easy to clean up. A number of these lubes also contain glycerin however, which may cause yeast infections in some women. They can also dry out relatively quickly, but adding a little more lube, water, or saliva will get you sliding smoothly again.

Water-Based Products We Carry:

Pink Water Lubricant:

Pink Water is Pink's new water-based lubricant designed with the specific needs of women in mind. Pink Water is glycerin free and contains no pigment, so it does not stain fabrics. Fortified with Aloe Vera, it is gentle on your skin and all sensitive areas. Pink Water is formulated to the same high quality specifications as all of the Pink line of lubricants so it is condom-safe and highly concentrated, yet easy to wash off. Come alive and feel new pleasures. Pink Water Intimate Lubricant is a premier purified water-base lubricant that provides the long-lasting glide of silicone, but also offers a wetter, lighter- weight blended texture that is both slippery smooth and easy to rinse away. Pink Water feels surprisingly like your own natural moisture, and is the ideal enhancement since it won't dry out and is irritation-free so the pleasure is all yours. Contains added extracts of Aloe Vera and Oat to repair and minimize irritation, and Ginseng and Guarana to heighten sensation and increase blood flow.

Silicone-based lubes:

Silicone-based lubes are the newest on the market. Like water-based lubes, they're safe to use with condoms and other latex products, but they last longer. Silicone lubes can also be used in the water without being washed off. However, this means they're harder to clean up after: you'll have to use soap and water. If you're using silicone lube with sex toys, you may want to use caution, since it can damage sex-toys made of silicone. Using a condom over the toy or choosing a water-based lube can help avoid mishaps.

Within these broader categories, you can find more specific kinds of lube, such as flavored lubes for oral sex or lubes that contain a spermicide like nonoxynol-9. Note that nonoxynol-9 can cause irritation, which may increase one's risk of contracting HIV. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to do a spot-test on your inner arm or thigh the day before you plan to use any new lube in order to make sure you don't have an unwanted allergic reaction.
